1987, I was in a car with some friends. One of them, in the front seat, heard this on the radio, and said, "I love this song!" He turned up the radio and sang this along with the chorus. I busted out laughing; he turned around to me and said that that was what he'd heard the first time he heard the song, and has sung it that way ever since.
